I would like to share with you the story of a young girl.
She was born in Russia, but immigrated to Israel in 1990, along with her parents and older sister, Marina. The family chose to relocate to Haifa, the pretty coastal city where I grew up and lived till I left for the Army.
Liz studied in a Gifted Children class in one of the better schools in Haifa. She had multiply talents, among those a love and a gift for acting and singing - she had a remarkable voice
She was a beautiful girl, with long, black hair, vivid green eyes and pale smooth skin. On account of the above, she was nicknamed by her friends as Snow white.
Liz was an intelligent and generous child. Her friendly, outgoing nature and joy of life enchant everyone around her; including myself.
I've come to know her very well, since Marina, her sister, had became my best friend. We sat together at school, met at her house twice a week, and did a lot of things together. (We never met at my home because of my parents).
Since Marina and Liz were very close (Marina worshiped her, almost) I got to see Liz a whole lot. She had became an adopted little sister of mine, the littler sister I dreamed of having. I adored her. it was so much fun to see her grow into a beautiful teenage girl. When she was 16 we were talking, she and I like per-grad friends. She had so much depth to her, and her understanding was beyond her years to a great degree.
The second Intifada had started. Haifa had sustained several massive suicide bombings, each claiming dozen of life. Whole families killed together. Each time I saw the Breaking New - suicide attack in Haifa" I broke down and cried bitterly, saying "Why why why" and making the phone list round - the long, heartbreaking, terrifying round - of calls, trying to reach all my family members and friends. Trying to verify that everyone's OK and alive.
And than one day, on 05.03.2003, I get a phonecall from a frantic and crying Marina. She is informing me that there was an attack on bus number 37. Dozens of school children were on the bus (It lead to her school). And they can't reach her, she is not answering.
After 24 hours of searching through the hospitals, we were informed that she was killed. She sat right near the bomber. There was nothing to bury.
I took it hard. I took many month to recover. Marina never did. She left the country and broke contact with me, telling me I'm too close to it, she can'ts stand it. I've later spoke with another close friend who told me she had done the same with him.
So, I've lost them both.
A month before she was murdered, Marina was married. Liz sang in her wedding a song for her, as a wedding gift for her adored sister. I wish to share that song with you, as well as her pictures.
Liz at age 17
And "Latet (to Give), the song Liz had preformed for her sisters wedding. Original performance.
