Learning to read again

One of the best things that has happened last week - I'm relearning how to read. By that I mean - how to read and actually absorb material instead of just skimming surface. its slows me down from 120 to only 90 pages per hour, or so, but, god, it's actually reading.

And it's...magical. I feel like I've discovered a long-lost part of me. For the past year, at least, I was reading shallow things, for the most part. Fanfiction that did not require much thought from the Wicked fandom, rereading books like the Wheel of Time books. (those books are good. They just do not require much deep thinking. )

So, I'm reading now "The Riddle-Master of Hed" trilogy by Patricia A. McKillip and I'm captivated.

These books from the pen of Patricia McKillip are full of lyricism and magic . They take place in a mist of magical imagery and the very language is beautiful. So many metaphors, it's so rich, you simply cannot skim with McKillip's work; you'll miss something important if you don't read every word. I found these books difficult to put down.

So I brought the book to work in order to read on the way, on the bus, and during lunch break, and oh, it's something I didn't do in so, so long.

Next reading project - reread - really reread - the earthsea trilogy. And than go back to McKillip and look up her other books.
